I've tried everything to disable them. I tried modyfying the regisrty as instructed on windows xp help pages, tried unchecking tooltips in the folder options display, tried disabling them in tweak ui for xp and tweaknow powerpack and STILL they keep appearing. Any thoughts ? any ideas?

I haven't ever seen the tooltips for the Minimize, Maximize, or Close buttons. But I get them on practically everything else. I hate 'em.

To disable ToolTips in Windows XP: 1) Open the Registry Editor 2) Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop. 3) Double-click UserPreferencemask and change its value to 3E 00 00 00. 4) Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows.

werewolf- if you feel daring try this one...........

I posted a thread that eliminates all tooltips system wide and almost no one responded. You must be running Winamp 2.x AND a plugin called niceMC.The thread was called "odd tip for getting rid of tooltip popups " for more info.Dont know why this works but it was posted on the winamp site.It was a side effect of the combination of winamp and niceMC.Dosnt work for winamp3 and niceMC3,It has to be winamp 2.x and the niceMC plugin for winamp 2.i'm using 2.91)Even if you dont use winamp it's worth the 5 mb to get rid of the nasty buggers.Dont know if OS makes any difference(i'm on xp)

I bumped the tip for you crissy...this has worked perfectly for me so far.Ifyou run a program that you need the tooltips for just exit winamp and they come back immediately.

You know I never noticed the tool tips... until now!!

I guess I was so quick with the mouse that I didn't see it or I just got use to it.

I also noticed on win98 when windowblinds is on I don't get tool tips for the min/max

Funny, I thought this thread was about SkinStudio and those tips that pop up all over the place. It was cool at first and even at second, but now I sooooo want to turn them off. My computer doesn't have enough RAM as it is and I notice my 5 year old win98 system crashes because of them (you should see how hard it tried to keep up with all the baloons

at the risk of asking a silly question, in which part of windows are you trying to get rid of tool tips? i dont see many, but on the very rare occasions i use windows explorer it likes to produced stupid big tool tips that get in the way.

all i am aware of getting are tooltips on tool bar buttons and system tray icons.

I agree, those darn tooltips that show up all over the place in skin studio are THE most annoying. Even though I have that feature turned off in skin studio, they still appear.

Hum, I actually don't mind the tooltips. Alfter all they don't show up until you hover over the button for a second or two. And I actually find them quite handy, especially for applications I am not 100% familiar with.

The nicemc plugin has to be the correct version. There are two versions. One for winamp2.x and one for winamp 3.You have to have the version for winamp 2.Plus winamp has to be loaded of course.I never see popups anymore.i'm on xp so that could be the problem.
